"Ralph 124C 41+" by Hugo Gernsback is an early science fiction novel, written as a twelve-part serial in "Modern Electrics" magazine beginning in April 1911. It was compiled into novel/book form in 1925. It is considered one of the most influential science fiction stories of all time. The title itself is a play on words, ( 1 2 4 C 4 1 + ) meaning "One to foresee for one another". Some successful predictions from this novel include television (and channel surfing), remote-control power transmission, the video phone, transcontinental air service, solar energy in practical use, sound movies, synthetic milk and foods, artificial cloth, voiceprinting, tape recorders, and spaceflight. It also contains "...the first accurate description of radar, complete with diagram..." according to Arthur C. Clarke in his "non-genre" novel "Glide Path." (1963)

Ralph is a genius. Without ever having met him you can tell that by the + at the end of his name. Only 10 people in the world have the + designation in their name.Ralph is in love with Alice and no other person, or event can distract him from that love.
However Alice has two other suitors who are just as enamoured of her namely: Fernand another inventor and Llysanorh, the Martian.
After saving Alice’s life it was only natural that Alice and her father should visit Ralph to thank him in person.
From that point on Ralph has to match his wits and intelligence to fend of both Fernand and Llysanorh.
What is compelling about this story is that the Author has hit so many home runs in forecasting future technology.
What is also interesting is that the book not only serves as entertainment, but education as well. Much like science fiction authors from the late 19th century the author seems to relish his descriptions of the details of his vivid imagination. This is something not present in current Science Fiction.
A recommended look at one of the best science fiction stories from the 1910’s and a defiante volume to have in your library

I never read a book in my life except in school or college, this was my first! Timeline is my 2nd and I just finished it too, thanks to my wife for lighting my fuse!
This book has much in it that has become science fact such as Cashless payments (Credit/debit Cards,night sporting events, hydroponic farming, e-readers, fax machine, television,space travel etc. These technologies are interspersed with an account of Alice's grateful visit to Ralph in New York after Ralph saves her house from an avalanche. Of course, being Science Fiction there are villains including a martian. Ralph 124 c41+ is a greet "space opera" ion the likes of Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers serials.
The + means he is one of ten great scientists who have contributed much to society
Of course, there are technologies yet to be discovered but this is science fiction.

This is a science fiction classic. A must-have for a collector. Edify yourself with Wikipedia's biog of Gernsback.
